Outpath: First Journey is a free-to-play simulation game for PC by developer David Moralejo Sanchez. It is a first-person base-building title made in pixel art style. In it, players will build a base in the middle of the ocean and slowly expand to more islands as they grow.

Combining the survival elements from Subnautica with the lighthearted gameplay and presentation of Minecraft, Outpath: First Journey manages to create a relaxing and casual game that players can enjoy at their own pace. It's a demo, serving as a prologue chapter for the arrival of the full Outpath game.

Island-hopping

Outpath is a base-building game with clicker gameplay mechanics, meaning you can interact with its world and play it with a simple mouse click. You are tasked with establishing your base in the middle of the ocean, and slowly expanding your territory to other neighboring islands. Outpath: First Journey is a prologue chapter and a preview to let you experience what it has to offer firsthand.

With a clicker game premise in mind, the gameplay lets you automate the building process so things are progressing even when you're not in the game. Scavenge resources that you'll need to craft items and materials, and fish for food to survive. Moving about is also quite fluid with parkour-like movement that lets you swiftly jump from one area to another as needed.

Level up your skills and unlock new building blueprints as you progress. Once your base is self-sustaining and you have earned enough, you can then buy up other islands to harvest their resources and discover hidden secrets. Now, one of the biggest pitfalls in the clicker game genre has always been the gameplay variety or lack thereof. Unfortunately, this game also suffers from the same fate.

A promising preview

All in all, Outpath: First Journey serves as a nice preview of what you can expect when with the full game. The pixel art style is charming and it lives up to its claim of being a clicker-style game with simple controls and an automated building system. Unfortunately, it also falls to the trap of lackluster content problem, but hopefully, it gets addressed once Outpath releases.
